We get calls for many questions to do with the pageant. So we have taken the time to answer some of your questions. If you do not see your questions please give me a call personally and I can fill you in. We understand that this could be the first time your child has competed and we want you to feel you have all the information you may need.
What Should my child wear?
This is your child not ours, you can put your child in any dress you would like but keep in mind what is age appropriate. Judges are spoken to before the pageant starts and we do go over with them to keep in mind what a child wears and that they feel it is right for their age. You do not have to buy a fancy pageant dress in order to win, the Judges are told to judge the beauty, poise and the over all dress. Ex. If the dress matches? If it fit properly? Was it a good color? How she wore it? There will be parents who go out and buy expensive dresses but if the personality isn't there it will not matter one way or the other.
What is age appropriate?
If you enter your daughter and she is 0-6 a cup cake dress is fine but not needed. You can dress her as you see fit. We have had winners in the past that won with a dress that was bought from a local store. If she is 10 yrs old and is in a dress with a full open back and strapless a judge may feel its not a good dress for her age. So keep in mind when finding a dress how old does your child look? The 13-19 yr olds do raise the bar when it comes to dresses and make-up because they are about the right age. If your 13-19 most girls wear longer dresses but if you decide to wear a short dress that is your choice.
Can I put make-up on my child?
If you decide to put make up on your child keep in mind the age. This is not a full glitz pageant, alot of make up will not help a 5 year old, it is up to you though but if you would like some light blush and lip gloss it would be fine. Girls in the older groups normally wear make-up. This is your choice not ours but in the little girls age groups do not think she will win because she has make up or has been tanned.
Does anyone make money?
Everyone here volunteers their time and all the money made goes towards the youth of our community. No one is paid so 100% of the profit goes towards our youth.
Can I get a sponsor?
Sponsors are encouraged, if you get a sponsor please write their information down so we can announce them when your child goes on. If you go to ask a business to sponsor your child its fine but its up to you to give us the information to announce during the pageant. We cant add sponsors or change information the day of the pageant. There is to many things going on.
Is this pageant rigged?
I am Troy Cady I have two sons, It does not matter to me one way or the other who wins. I leave that up to the judges. Please understand I feel that all of the girls are winners and I am so proud of each and everyone. Please do not judge me badly if the judges did not pick your child, I do not have anything to do with the winners. I am proud of all of you. Every girl has an equal chance to win if she shows her personality on stage. I have actually been asked if we just pick the winners we want to have and the answer to that is absolutely not.
Who are the judges?
I strive to get the judges from out of town, so no local judges are used so it will remain fair. There have been times I have used a judge staying in a place in Rockport but does not live here and does not know any of the contestants. I just make sure they do not know one single girl. It remains fair to your children. I do not share who my judges are until the day of the pageant so please feel secure that there is no way a judge will know a girl. This is a fair pageant and every girl will have an equal chance.
Can I be back stage?
If you have a child between the ages of 0-6 then yes you are asked to remain back stage. If your child is 7 - 10 you can help them get ready then you must go into the audience. We have volunteers that will be there the whole time with your children to help them along the way. If your child is 11-19 they can manage on their own with our female volunteers and can enter the back stage on their own and get ready. There is alot going on back stage and it gets crowded. If you have an issue you can speak to me about it directly on pageant day. We will not allow someone to come in and help a contestant change their hair style during wardrobe changes.
When will I know the results?
All the results are given for each age group after they all go on stage. They will go on stage and after the last girl competes they will all go out together for one last overall judging. They will then wait for the results and it usually takes about 20 minutes depending on the amount of entries. For example if they go on at 1:00pm and by 1:25 all the girls were seen by the judges. Most times the results will be in around 1:45 pm they are crowned and then they may leave for the day. If they happen to win, the winners are asked to return for the Miss Pageant at 7:30 for a group photo.
My Child has never done a pageant does she even have a chance?
Keep in mind that pageants are becoming more popular for Rockport so most of the girls here have never done a pageant either. So everyone has a fair chance, it just depends on how she does on stage.
My child is 13 or older will the question for interview be difficult?
We understand that they will be nervous, so we give the girls the questions they will be asked in advance. They will be given a list of questions to study and then be able to draw a question. This way they will not be as nervous as they would be if we asked them a random question. We do not ask Political, or controversial questions to do with religion. Most times we will ask questions like - Who is your hero and why? Tell us one of your greatest accomplishments.
